An Equilibrium Analysis of Knaster's Fair Division Procedure

چکیده

In an incomplete information setting, we analyze the sealed bid auction proposed by Knaster (cf. Steinhaus (1948)). This procedure was designed to effi ciently and fairly allocate multiple indivisible items when participants report their valuations truthfully. In equilibrium, players do not follow truthful bidding strategies. We find that, expost, the equilibrium allocation is still effi cient, however, may not be fair. However, on average, participants receive the same outcome they would have received if everyone had reported truthfully — i.e., the mechanism is ex-ante fair.

Computational Fair Division

Fair division is a fundamental problem in economic theory and one of the oldest questions faced through the history of human society. The high level scenario is that of several participants having to divide a collection of resources such that everyone is satisfied with their allocation – e.g. two heirs dividing a car, house, and piece of land inherited. The literature on fair division was devel...

Fair Division with General Equilibrium Effects and International Climate Politics

This paper introduces a solution for the fair division of common property resources in production economies with multiple inputs and outputs. It is derived from complementing the Walrasian solution by welfare bounds, whose ethical justification rests on commonality of ownership. We then apply this solution to the question of burden sharing in the climate change regime, using an intertemporal co...

On the Fair Division of Greenhouse Gas Abatement Cost

This paper introduces a solution for the fair division of emission reduction costs in the climate change regime. Our primary focus is the fair division of efficiency gains that arise from exchanging the initial allocation of emission entitlements, rather than the initial allocation itself. We propose to complement the competitive Walrasian solution with welfare bounds, the ethical justification...

Using Taguchi Experimental Design to Develop an Optimized Synthesis Procedure of Sodalite Prepared by Microwave and Ultrasonic Assisted Aging

Perlite or pearl stone is a natural glass which has formed by rapid cooling of viscous lava or magma. Perlite is mainly composed of silica, aluminum, potassium and sodium. In this experiment, perlite was used as a low-cost source of Si and Al to synthesis of sodalite zeolite using the alkaline hydrothermal treatment. A statistical Taguchi design of experiments was employed to evaluate the effec...

Equilibrium analysis in cake cutting

Cake cutting is a fundamental model in fair division; it represents the problem of fairly allocating a heterogeneous divisible good among agents with different preferences. The central criteria of fairness are proportionality and envy-freeness, and many of the existing protocols are designed to guarantee proportional or envy-free allocations, when the participating agents follow the protocol. H...
